Getting a new major medical diagnosis can be a shock, and a major turning point in your life.  How you respond to that shock emotionally may make the difference between recovery and chronic illness.

No matter what the health condition is, getting a new medical diagnosis can be a frightening, anxious, and even grief-filled time.  All sorts of questions immediately arise, or present themselves in the following months, as you and your doctor take tests, rule out possibilities, and make treatment plans.

Your once ordered life now may feel out of control, and the stress of the uncertainties facing you may be overwhelming.

What doctors may not think of is that some Emotional First Aid can give the immune and central nervous systems greater strength to help in the physical healing process.

Tending to emotions helps lower blood pressure, enables easier coping with side effects of necessary medications, and helps you heal much more quickly from surgery.
