1. You got business cards made with your job title,
address, phone number, even your website on them.
2. You network with business or social groups every month to let people know
who you are and that you're open for business.
3. You've constructed a simple website outlining who you work with, what
your practice philosophy is, what your policies are, how much your services cost, which insurances you take, etc.
4. You've got a small ad in a relevant phone book or specialty hard
copy newspaper.
5. You have gotten yourself on insurance panels, and while waiting
for insureds to find you, you are letting referral sources in allied fields know you exist.
6. You've listed yourself on one or more internet directories where people
search for therapists or naturopaths.
7. You're getting some
clients as a result of these efforts, but they are slow in coming, not your ideal, or don't follow
through long term.
8. You've tried everything and anything others have used or suggested but
the magic of sustainable client attraction has so far eluded you.
9. You're determined to succeed, and know there must be a way to make marketing
work for you.
10. You intuitively know you need to approach marketing like it's learning
another language or getting another degree -- and you're ready to devote that kind of energy and focus to get proficient in
the marketing skillset.
11. You're making marketing a priority, working on removing the emotional
obstacles that have been sabotaging you, and are devoting the necessary time to getting systems in place that get clients
to your door with ease and grace.

If you answered yes, that's me to the
first 8 items only, you might be treating your business more like a hobby where marketing is concerned.
And why wouldn't you be? -- there's a lot of bad, ineffective,
disconnected advice floating around, and if you're like me, you didn't get any good training about marketing in your professional
education.
So these efforts are a start, but they aren't enough.
You might be getting some clients as a result of these efforts, but you aren't connecting with as many as you could. You may actually be losing more clients than you
attract.
The good news is that you've been trying out some strategies, and you've probably learned a lot about what
doesn't work that well for you. Knowing what doesn't work is a very important piece in designing a marketing plan
that will make your business thrive.
If you also answered yes,
I'm working on this to the last 3 items, you are indeed approaching the necessity
of getting the right clients in your door with a business success mindset. Congratulations!

Want to take the next step in getting more clients to
your door, filling your calendar with people you love to work with, and making more money than you imagined this year? This
Reality Check has just shown that you're ready to start fine tuning your efforts.
Or here to return to top.
